Route and travel time

From Tirana Airport, the route takes the motorway toward Durres and then the road south, past Kavaja, Rrogozhina and Lushnja. After Lushnja, it turns east toward Berat via Ura Vajgurore, through fields of olive groves and vineyards. The distance is about 125 km and the drive takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes, depending on traffic.

What to see in Berat

Berat is known as the “city of a thousand windows” for the white houses of the Mangalem and Gorica quarters, rising in tiers above the Osum river. Berat Castle, on top of the hill, is still inhabited, and inside it you’ll find old churches and the “Onufri” National Iconographic Museum.

Stroll the cobbled lanes of Mangalem, cross the Gorica bridge and climb up to the castle for the view over the city, especially at sunset. Vineyards and wineries surround the city, while to the southeast, in Skrapar, lies the Osum Canyon. From Berat you can easily continue on to Permet or Gjirokastra.
