Route and travel time

From Tirana Airport, you take the Tirana–Elbasan highway, then the road along the Shkumbin, via Librazhd, to the Qafe Thana border crossing. After the border, the road passes through Struga and along the northern shore of the lake to Ohrid. The distance is about 145 km and the drive takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes, not counting the wait at the border.

Documents: every passenger needs a valid passport or ID card, depending on their nationality. The travel time doesn’t include waiting at the border, which can be longer in summer.

What to see in Ohrid

Ohrid’s old town climbs the hill above the lake, with narrow streets, traditional houses and dozens of medieval churches. The Ohrid region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, both for the natural value of the lake and for its cultural monuments.

Don’t miss the Church of St. John at Kaneo, on the cliff by the water, Samuel’s Fortress, the ancient theater and Plaosnik. To the south, near the Albanian border, is the Monastery of St. Naum with its crystal-clear springs, while on the Albanian shore of the lake are Pogradec and Lin.
